The Kimball Board of Mayor and Aldermen has approved two key vehicle-related actions: the purchase of a new UTV for the city’s Maintenance Department and the donation of a patrol vehicle to the 12th Judicial District Drug Task Force.

The board authorized the purchase of a 2025 Polaris 1000 UTV from Battle Creek Powersports in Jasper for $17,502. This price includes accessories, fees, and all necessary documentation. The vehicle will be used by the Maintenance Department for routine infrastructure inspections and upkeep across the community, enhancing the department’s mobility and operational efficiency.

Additionally, the board approved the donation of a newly acquired Chevrolet Tahoe patrol vehicle to the 12th Judicial District Drug Task Force. This multi-county agency serves six counties within the judicial district, including Marion County, where it is based.

Mayor Rex Pesnell explained that the town typically donates $2,000 annually to support the Task Force’s efforts in combating drug activity. However, because the Task Force is currently in need of a new vehicle—as noted by Alderman John Matthews—the board opted to donate one of the city’s recently received patrol vehicles instead. The vehicle’s value offsets five years’ worth of future monetary contributions.

During the meeting, Vice Mayor Jerry Don Case raised a question about the ownership and future disposition of the vehicle, particularly in the event the Task Force were to disband. City Attorney William Gouger addressed those concerns, citing state law requiring that any assets held by the Task Force must be transferred to another government entity or nonprofit organization with a related mission if the agency is dissolved.

The board voted unanimously in favor of both agenda items. As a result, the city’s Maintenance Department and the Drug Task Force are both now equipped with essential new vehicles to support their field operations.
