Kimball’s Board of Mayor & Aldermen recently agreed to an updated Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding health coverage, as well as a maintenance agreement with Southern Duplicating of Chattanooga.

During the meeting, City Attorney William Gouger explained the memorandum of understanding concerns health insurance coverage for the city via Tennessee’s statewide health insurance program. He noted how updates were made to the original agreement where if the city council wishes to continue being covered by the state, then the board would need to agree to the MOU provided. However, if deciding to opt out, the council would need to seek different coverage. But by seeking coverage elsewhere, the board would not be able to reapply for state-based coverage for at least two years.

“I certainly don’t recommend that. I think the risk is too great, for you’d be on the open market trying to find health coverage, and that can create all kinds of issues,” said Gouger.

In addition to the MOU, the maintenance agreement with Southern Duplicating pertains to the costs of black and white and colored copies for all copy machines at the town hall and police department. Black and white copies cost $.01 each, while colored copies cost $.o5, remaining the same as last year with the company.

Both items were unanimously approved by the board, with the council to remain insured by the state while also continue to receive copies from Southern Duplicating.
