Kathlyn Turney Hill, 94 and formerly of South Pittsburg passed away on Monday, September 8 at Harvest Assisted Living Center in Roanoke, Texas. Kathlyn was born on November 16, 1930 in South Pittsburg to parents Gilbert and Effie (Hudson) Turney.
After graduating as class valedictorian from South Pittsburg High School, Kathlyn married her high school sweetheart, Don Hill in 1950. Kathlyn spent her entire working career at Lodge Manufacturing in South Pittsburg. She began her employment with Lodge as a bookkeeper and retired after many years in 1995 as Lodge Office Manager. Kathlyn was an active member of Holly Avenue Methodist Church in South Pittsburg for more than 50 years.
Kathlyn was admired by friends and family for her kindness, faithfulness, and sense of humor. She is also remembered as a wonderful cook. Some of her specialties included roast beef and vegetables, fried fish and hush puppies, as well as desserts of all kinds. She will always be known by her family and friends for her famous pecan pie. Kathlyn was a true Southern cook and insisted that all meals should be served with homemade bread. Kathlyn also enjoyed camping, baseball games, reading and going to the University of Tennessee football games. In 2000, Kathlyn moved to Alpharetta, Georgia. In 2019, Kathlyn moved to Harvest of Roanoke to be closer to family where she lived out the remainder of her life.
Kathlyn adored her family and will be greatly missed by her son Bob (Lisa) Hill, grandsons James Edward Hill and Ryan Gaker, great grandsons Liam Cummings and Zaden Gaker, brother Jim (Carolyn) Turney, niece Shereen Stewart and great niece Kayley Turney, as well as also great nephew Seth Turney.
Kathlyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, James Donald Hill, her parents Gilbert and Effie Turney, grandparents Gilbert and Beulah Hudson and Haywood and Lillie Turney, her sister Shirley Mae Blevins, brother-in-law Chester Blevins and nephew Nathan Eric Turney.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 20 at 1 p.m. in the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home, with Roger Webb officiating.
Mrs. Hill will be laid to rest with her beloved husband James Donald Hill in the Sequatchie Valley Memorial Garden Cemetery in Jasper.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, September 20 from 11:30 a.m. till 1 p.m. prior to the funeral service in the funeral home chapel.
