Kate’s Bar-B-Q was in operation at the Dixie Lee Junction in Kimball for decades. This postcard dates from 1952 and six people are seen in this card. The couple sitting directly in front of the building is believed to be the owners, John and Idabel Legg. They had a public telephone (which almost everyone used in the 1940s and 1950s), served food, sold gas, and were the Greyhound bus stop. John Legg’s car, seen in the picture, is a 1939 or 1940 Ford. Kate’s Bar-B-Q was located roughly between where Kimball’s Waffle House and RaceWay Service Station are today.
