John August Reames, 76, of South Pittsburg, passed away Monday, January 1.
John served in the Vietnam War where he was wounded and paralyzed. Although this was a setback, he never let it stop him from doing what he wanted to do. He loved his family and friends, and enjoyed spending time outside whether it be hunting, fishing, farming or just spending time with the people he cared about. He had a caring and loving heart and soul. His life’s work was making sure that those close to him and in the community had what they needed. He took the time to teach young people how to do anything from using a weed eater to stacking hay. He loved to hear a dog run a trail, whether it be a beagle running a rabbit or a hound trailing a coon. He also enjoyed watching his South Pittsburg Pirates and the Tennessee Volunteers play football. He made many memories with people from the surrounding area hunting and fishing. His smile and loving ways will be dearly missed but never forgotten by anyone who ever met him.
John is preceded in death by his parents; Jack and Mary Ruth Reames and close friends Terry Grider, Pete Raulston and Tobe Samples.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara Reames; sister-in-law; Mary (Adam) Dawson; sisters, Peggy (Billy) McAllister, Susan (Don) Weaver, Gayla (Bill) Vaught, Henrietta (Richard) Nunley; brothers, Gary (Dean) Reames, Tony (Kay) Reames; one aunt, who was just like a sister, Mildred Duke; one grandson, Cade Dawson; best friend and nephew B.J.
