Joey Layne, 38 of Clarksville, TN, formerly of South Pittsburg died unexpectedly on Thursday, April 24.
Joey was known to be a kind and generous soul. Everyone who knew Joey loved him. He was filled with strength and determination, yet also was gentle and caring. He was an avid Pirate ball player and fan. He loved his family and friends, baseball, funny movies and being outside. His journey was not an easy one, but his Christian faith, determination and strength pushed him and has touched and astounded many lives. He will be in our hearts forever. We rejoice now knowing that he is in heaven, whole in the arms of Jesus.
He is survived by his parents Jaime (Shane) Moore, Jimmy (Jennifer) Layne, sisters Erica Butler, Jacie Layne (fiancé Hunter) and Abigail Layne, brothers Corey Layne and Derek (Brooke) Layne, stepsiblings Rebecca Moore, Chloe McBee, and Chandler McBee, grandmother Sally Hookey, Godparents Chris and Tracy Oaks, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, other family members, as well as dear friends and caregivers.
He was preceded in death by his niece Leah “Bug” Mitchell, grandfather Bob Hookey and grandparents Waymon and Nancy Layne.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 28 at 2 p.m. at the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home, with Pastor Darrell Nunley whom officiated.
Interment was followed at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Jasper.
The family received friends for visitation at Rogers Funeral Home on Monday, April 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service within the chapel.
Pallbearers were Joe Hookey, Kyle Case, Kevin Curd, Jeff Case, Tyler Oaks and Nick Holcomb.
