JoAnn Wells Jones, 82

JoAnn Wells Jones, 82, of Jasper was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 30. On September 4, 1941, she was born to the late John Henry Wells and Bonnie Smith Wells. JoAnn was the Salutatorian of the 1960 class of Marion County High School. She was married to the late Lee Alton Jones for sixty years. JoAnn was hired as the first town clerk for the City of Jasper in 1960 and continued her service there for sixty years. For her dedication of service, they named the City Hall Building The JoAnn Jones Municipal Building. JoAnn was a member of Bible Baptist Church on East Valley Road in Jasper and was also their clerk, piano player and treasurer. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and canning, loved her family and spending time with them. She loved and had several cats throughout her life. JoAnn loved her church and Jesus Christ.

JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, John Leonard Wells and sister, Donna Faye Wells.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Cyndy (Sherwin) Smith; brother, James Darrell Wells; sister, Frances Lawson; sister-in-law, Vickie Wells; grandchildren, Brandon (Kim) Jones, Zachary (Kellie) McCoin, Alison (Matt) Dorton; Nic (Carly) Smith, Brett (Haley) Smith; several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members and special friends.

Visitation is Sunday, September 1, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Tate Funeral Home in Jasper. Visitation on Monday, September 2, 2024, from 11 a.m. to noon at Bible Baptist Church in Jasper.

Funeral Services will be on Monday, September 2, at noon at Bible Baptist Church in Jasper with Pastor Roger Webb and Pastor Greg Hamman officiating.

Burial will be at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper immediately following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Marion County High School Golf and Basketball programs.

Pallbearers are Mason Jones, Carter Jones, Mark Brown, Josh Brown, David Lawson and Robert Casteel. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Tate Funeral Home, LLC, 950 Mel Dixon Lane, Jasper, Tennessee (423) 942-9500. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.tatefh.com.
