Jasper Middle School’s wrestling team were recognized for their achievement in winning the 2025 TMSAA Class A Dual Wrestling State Championship during this month’s Board of Education meeting.
Dr. Heath Thacker, Principal of JMS, during the recognition introduced to all attending the meeting five of the 20 members from the school’s wrestling team. The members who attended were William Cotton, Tru Presnell, Weston Kirkpatrick, Holden Weeks, and Callahan McIntyre.
Thacker praised the team’s hard work and dedication, stating how the team has become the first middle school wrestling team in the county’s history to achieve champion status for the state’s yearly wrestling championship.
“They are probably the hardest working group that we got,” said Thacker. “When it comes to wrestling, you got to maintain your weight and there’s a lot of injuries that occur. These guys persevered.”
The 2025 TMSAA Class A Dual Wrestling State Championship was held on Friday, Dec. 19, at Summit High School in Spring Hill. Coached by Mason Keel, JMS competed for the championship title against both Providence Middle Academy and Dupont Hadley Middle School’s wrestling teams. During each match, JMS won against both teams: JMS scoring 51-34 against Providence Middle and 52-36 against Dupont Hadley Middle, allowing JMS’s wrestling team to take home the winning title and make history for the school’s wrestling program.
Towards the conclusion of the recognition, Thacker mentioned a display case is in the works of being set up at JMS to display the team’s winning trophy that helped mark a major achievement earned for the community team.
