Jerry Church, 66

Jerry Church, 66, of South Pittsburg, passed peacefully with family by his side on Tuesday, August 27.

Jerry was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was married to the love of his life, Martha, for forty years prior to her passing. Jerry was the proud father to his two children, Matt and Abby. As a former defensive end, he loved watching South Pittsburg Pirate football.  He was an active member in his community owning a small business with his brother for 20 years. Later in his career, Jerry joined SVEC and worked as a lineman until his retirement.  The greatest joy of his life was spending time with his family, especially his four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jaynes Church; parents, Martin Church and Iva Jean Brown Church; brother-in-law, Pete Wilkerson.

Survivors include his children, Matt (Brett) Church and Abby (Matt) Massengale; grandchildren, Ethan Church, Landrie Church, Sawyer Church, and Clint Massengale; brother, James (Terri) Church; sisters, Brenda Wilkerson and Beverly Lee and several nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 31, at 2 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home, South Pittsburg Chapel with Pastor Calvin Nunley officiating.

Interment will follow at Cumberland View Cemetery in Kimball.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 31, from noon to 2 p.m. at the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral home prior to the funeral service in the chapel.

Jerry loved playing Santa Claus during the holidays. The family wishes donations to be made to the Marion County Sheriff’s Department Christmas for Kids, 5 Oak Street, Jasper, TN 37347, in lieu of flowers.
