At the December 11 Town of Jasper meeting, Mayor Jason Turner thanked the wide range of people involved in the Christmas parade that took place the previous Friday, December 9, and congratulated all the winners.

Due to weather the parade was moved up but that did not deter the townspeople of Jasper. Hundreds of people stood along the sidewalks in Betsy Pack Square to catch candy and see the stunning floats.

Two floats tied for third place, the Marion Co. Sheriff’s Department and Victory Baptist Church. The Department’s float was brightly lit with light blue and white Christmas lights and featured two deer and a snowman. The Church’s float featured a sign that said. “Jesus is the sweetest name I know.” A group from the church accompanied the float dressed as elves, Christmas presents, and a reindeer.

#2 float New Beginnings Church

In Second place was New Beginnings Church with lights writing out “Jesus is the light of the world. With a cross intricately wrapped in lights and children from the church throwing candy this float was a big hit.

Finally, in first place the MCHS Interact Club took the big one with their Christmas Vacation float. With a trailer pulled by a long RV, both were draped dramatically with colorful Christmas lights and the students dressed in various styles for vacation. One person dressed as Santa Clause while another was in a bathrobe and hat. The stunning and multicolored float will surely be remembered for it’s fun and creative team member’s design.
