The Jasper Highlands Fire Department (JHFD) recently became an official member of the Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads (TARS).
JHFD was recognized for their ongoing efforts to expand the department’s skill sets when tackling emergency situations, with firefighters developing skills in vertical rope rescue, vehicle extrication and general search and rescue scenarios. Because of doing so, all members of the department have acquired EMS capabilities they can utilize when out on the field saving lives, thus leading to the department’s admission to TARS. JHFD acquired experience in EMS through the education of life saving and first aid services.
The TARS organization dedicates its efforts to the education of rescue and first aid work, with members receiving various training opportunities that accumulate towards readying firefighters for different emergency situations. Since the 1940s, the organization has lead the charge to ensure fire squads throughout the state are well trained in life saving and rescue units . TARS also strives to include efficient contact between all departments with public conventions and contests, as well as foster accident prevention within Tennessee.
JHFD’s membership has now allowed them to become an official rescue squad, coinciding with their title as a volunteer fire department. With the newfound membership, all in the department are ready to utilize their newfound skills and membership to further protect and serve those in Marion County, should the need to do so arises.
