The Town of Jasper Mayor and Alderman Board approved a bid appointed by Skate Anytime, a company known for producing full synthetic ice, for the purchase and ownership of space for this year’s ice skating rink in downtown Jasper.

The bid itself consisted of a total cost of $39,779. Mayor Jason Turner shared great enthusiasm for the approval, stating how successful last year’s skating rink had been for the local economy, especially for the businesses located on the square.

“We rented one last year. We paid $35,000 in rental for it. And it was a big success,” Mayor Turner said. “We had some sponsorship last year, and we’re looking for sponsorship on this later on.” He finalized his statements advising, “It’s a benefit for us tax wise too.”

Alderwoman Vikki Morgan also added support for the purchase, “I just think it’ll pay for itself over time, and there’s so many people that enjoyed this,” she said. “And it brought so many people into town.”

An additional benefit mentioned would be the ability to have it open longer than compared to last year. Therefore giving it more use for the public. Like last year, the skating rink will be located in downtown Jasper. Ticket prices for children and adults are also expected to be the same.
