Resident addresses board about sidewalks

A South Pittsburg resident recently came forward to the city council to share his concerns about the town’s sidewalks.

During the January meeting, Felix Evans described to the board several sidewalks being under relative disrepair. The sidewalks mentioned are on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Streets lined across Holly Avenue. He explained parts of the sidewalk are left protruding from the ground upward by five inches, while other areas show a two-inch downward drop from the surface area. He noted the cause being linked to the trees within the neighborhood being responsible for the damages, as large roots have grown directly under parts of the sidewalks described, causing the paths to be uprooted and damaged.

“For years we have neglected to take care of that,” said Evans. “Now it’s become a major problem.”

The discussion concluded with the board taking note of the issue, and ensured Evans the city will further look into addressing the problem in the near future.
