Idona E. Higgins Layne, 87

Idona E. Higgins Layne, 87, of Kimball was called home on Thursday, December 28.  On December 19, 1936, she was born to the late Howard Higgins and Hallie Hudson Higgins.  She was married to the late Franklin Long and later to Paul B. Layne.  Idona attended Jehovah’s Witness Church.  She loved working in the yard, red roses and all flowers.  She enjoyed shopping, loved to dress up, traveling, spending time with her granddaughter, Sammi as well as bragging about her.

Idona is preceded in death by her father, Howard Higgins; mother, Hallie Hudson Higgins; grandfather, Jake Higgins; grandmother, Idonie Layne Higgins, brother, Daniel Higgins; sisters Odean Higgins and Agnes Higgins.

Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Paul B. Layne; son, Benny Long; stepsons, Les Layne, Bill Layne; daughter, Donnette (Sam) Moore; stepdaughter, Rhonda Layne; brothers Bernard (Gail) Higgins, Adrian Higgins; sisters, Ruth Colbaugh, Beverley (Johnny) Basham, Sheena Alktib; granddaughter, Sammi Moore along with other family members and friends.

Visitation will be on Sunday, December 31 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Tate Funeral Home in Jasper.

Funeral services are on Sunday, December 31, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Tate Funeral Home, in Jasper with Brother Neal Sweeny officiating.

Idona will be laid to rest in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Whitwell immediately following the funeral service.

Pallbearers are Bernard Higgins, Adrian Higgins, Benny Long, Sam Moore and Les Layne.
