Gary Carl Durham, 90 of Chattanooga, Tennessee was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 9. On September 23, 1934, he was born to the late James Samuel Durham and Ethel Strouth Durham in Chattanooga. Gary was employed by TVA and worked in construction before his retirement, and was a member of Grandview Church of God. He was married to Betty Barkley Durham until her death. Gary loved to hunt, fish, and enjoyed diving and playing pool. He enjoyed his family and spending time with them, especially his children and grandchildren.
Gary is preceded in death by his father James Samuel Durham, mother Ethel Strouth Durham, wife Betty Barkley Durham, brothers Lloyd Durham, Vernie Durham, Edward Durham, William Durham and Clifford Durham, sisters Mildred Bishop, Lonetta Nance, as well as Novella Killingsworth.
Left to cherish his memories are his sons Eddie Durham, James Durham, Scott Durham, Eric (Amy) Durham, daughters Robbie Durham, Rose (Don) Dempsey, Brittany (Destry) Hood, 10 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, as well as other family members and special friends.
Visitation was held on Thursday, June 12 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Friday, June 13 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Tate Funeral Home in Jasper.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 13 at 12 p.m. in the Chapel of Tate Funeral Home in Jasper, with Pastor David Berry who officiated.
Gary was laid to rest on Friday, June 13 immediately after the funeral service was held at Francis Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Pallbearers were Greg Layne, Deavin Kilgore, Johnny Baker, Adam Durham, Destry Hood, and Chuck Chamberlain. Honorary pallbearer was Kendall Sacks.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Tate Funeral Home, LLC, 950 Mel Dixon Lane Jasper, Tennessee 37347, 423-942-9500.
