Fred D. Smith, Sr., 80

Fred D. Smith, Sr., 80, of South Pittsburg was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 30. On November 21, 1943, he was born to the late James Fred Smith and Evelyn Inez Elrod Smith. Fred was married to Mary Carolyn Rector Smith before her death. He worked for the Marion County Highway Department doing maintenance. He was a member of New Hope Church of God. Fred loved music and church. He would play the harmonica in church every Sunday.  Fred loved guns and was a big gun collector. He loved spending time with his family.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents; wife; and son, David Smith, Jr.

Left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Mary (Chuck) Chambers; grandchildren, Chris Dalton, Amber Smith, Miranda Smith; great grandchildren, Jagger and Jaxxon Dalton, Lilly Keel, Bella Keel; several nieces, nephews, other members and special friend, Sissy West.

Visitation is Thursday, August 1, from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Friday, August 2, from noon to 2 p.m. at Tate Funeral Home in Jasper. Funeral services are on Friday, August 2, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Tate Funeral Home in Jasper with Pastor Mayburn Guess officiating.

Fred will be laid to rest on Friday, August 2, at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper, immediately following the funeral Service. Pallbearers are Chuck Chambers, Walter White, Jimmy Haley, Jr., Brandon Gilliam, Leroy Johnson and Brandon Davenport.
