A five year reappraisal plan for property in Marion County, in addition to a new MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) agreement tied to the plan has been accepted by the county’s Board of Mayor & Commissioners (BoMC).

During the meeting, County Attorney William Gouger explained through both a resolution and the MOU agreement, the county is able to remain within a five year cycle of property reappraisals conducted under Tennessee’s five year reappraisal program. The program, governed by the state’s Division of Property Assessments, allows property within a given county to be inspected for reappraisal in order to ensure all property within the area matches in value to the current real estate market. Marion County, alongside 68 other counties, have currently operated under the five year program, while the remaining 26 counties function within a four to six year cycle for reappraisals.

Once presented and discussed, the county’s BoMC unanimously agreed to allow the county to remain within a five year reappraisal cycle. The decision was made in a majority 11-1 vote, with Commissioner Ruric Brandt voting in opposition towards the plan’s passage.
