During this month’s city meeting in South Pittsburg, Mayor Samantha Rector, Commissioners Cheryl Kellerman and Allison Buchanan all shared their goodbyes both during and after their final meeting in office.
As proposals were made and when questions were answered, the board members have taken time to express their gratitude and honors of serving the community and of the town itself. When interviewed, Mayor Rector expressed her thoughts and appreciation for her time as mayor of the town, while also wishing the best of luck to the newly elected members of the city board.
“It’s been a very eye-opening experience in the past eight years to sit on that side of the table and try to make the right decisions, you know, for the taxpayers,” quoted Rector. Commissioner Buchanan also expressed great appreciation for her time serving as commissioner of the city itself, sharing great gratitude for her role as city commissioner. “I just wanted to express my deepest gratitude for the last four years of service alongside you all. Working together in the commission has been a learning experience and I’m grateful for the opportunity and for the lessons that I have learned,” stated Buchanan. She also expressed her thanks to the community for their entrustment, as well as also wishing the newcoming board members best wishes for the continuation of hers and the now former members’ work. The newly elected mayor of South Pittsburg, Shawn Henson, shared his thanks to the board members during the meeting itself, praising their hard work and dedication to the community, while also mentioning several events and proposals that were made by the now former board members, such as Tennessee River Line, as well as updates for the playground at Moore Park.
“There’s been a lot of positivity that has happened under this board. And I think everybody here should be happy for what they have accomplished,” quoted Henson. After the meeting concluded, all three former members of the board had received hugs and thank yous from those who have attended the meeting itself, sharing their gratefulness for their hard work as members of South Pittsburg’s city board.
