Marion Animal Resource Connection, better known as MARC, shelters hundreds of dogs and cats in our area. They rescue, care, and love each and every animal while they wait for their forever home. MARC runs on volunteer work and donations in order to provide the best care possible: medicine, spay & neutering, clean beds, toys, food, etc. The community contributes time, money, and loving homes for these animals. However, it takes a lot of things to give these animals the love and care they deserve and it can be a struggle sometimes.
MARC now has a life-saving and heartwarming partnership with an app called Treat: Play & impact REAL dogs. Treat is available on both Apple and Android and gives everyone a chance to help out shelter pets in many locations. Treat provides the users to choose a real animal at the shelter you can choose, and gives you games to play to start earning kibble points. These kibble points
accumulate as you take care of the virtual version of the real dog. Once you get enough points, you are able to donate food and treats to your selected pet and shelter!
Some people may assume that this would be a scam and a quick cash grab from the kind hearted folks willing to donate their time; however, this is absolutely not true! April Bowden, the director at MARC, was contacted to see if the donations were actually making it to them and making a difference. In the first month alone, they received 30 bags of dog food and recently they added on their Facebook that they have received over 40 more boxes.
These donations are saving lives and treating the shelter pets that are under MARC’s care. Treat, MARC, our community, and the kind hearts within it are making this all possible for all these animals to find the best homes possible with the best care.
