Dennis Lamar Winters, 57, of South Pittsburg, passed away on Friday, April 19.
Dennis was born with two holes in his heart that led doctors to believe he would not survive past the age of three. Against all odds, he did not just survive, he thrived. With 30 years of service on the South Pittsburg Police Department’s Auxiliary Team, 30 years’ service with the South Pittsburg Fire Department, and 8 years as a Correctional Officer for Marion County Sheriff’s Office, he used that same heart to serve others.
On Saturdays you would find him watching his beloved Volunteers, and on any given evening you were likely to find him by the fire in his backyard or riding down the road “patrolling”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Aileen Winters; aunt, Doris Hudson; uncle, Rueben Hudson; brothers, David Hudson, Danny Winters, and Buddy Winters. He is survived by his daughter, Emily (Brad) Bradford; grandchildren Briley Masterson and Kloee Bradford; brothers, Billy Winters, and Dale (Diana) Winters; sister, by choice Brenda Roth; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, April 23, at 4 p.m. in the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Winters and Pastor Ronnie Case officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 23, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the chapel service.
Arrangements are entrusted to Rogers Funeral Home, 400 Laurel Ave, South Pittsburg, (423) 837-7176.
