Daniel Lynn Smith, 67

Daniel Lynn Smith, 67 of Chattanooga, TN, formerly of South Pittsburg passed away unexpectedly at his home on March 20 surrounded by his loving family.

Dan was born in South Pittsburg on August 9, 1957 to J.C. “Dickey” Smith and Ellen Smith. He graduated from South Pittsburg High School in 1975 and was of the Church of Christ faith. He worked as a bread distribution owner/operator for Colonial from 1981 to 2024. On February 1, 1986, he married Angie Sherrill, the love of his life.

Dan is survived by his wife of 39 years Angie (Sherrill) Smith of East Ridge, TN, his children Erica Smith and Gray Smith of East Ridge, TN, his sister Linda (Smith) Stone (Johnny) of South Pittsburg, his brothers Gary (Deb) Smith of Signal Mountain, TN, Doug (Donna) Smith of South Pittsburg, mother-in-law Patsy Sherrill of South Pittsburg and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded by his father J.C. “Dickey” Smith, his mother Ellen (Philpott) Smith, his father-in-law Robert “Bob” Sherrill and his nephew Heath Smith.

Dan devoted his life to providing for his family. His children were his pride and joy. On the weekends, he enjoyed going out with friends and family for a “good” well done steak. Saturdays in the fall were dedicated to watching the Tennessee Vols play football. He was a classic car enthusiast who was the proud owner of a 1967 Chevrolet C10, affectionately named Mater. Dan retired on February 24, 2024. He reveled in the newfound freedom of being able to sleep in, relax in his recliner, or go out with friends for a late breakfast at the local Cracker Barrel.

Funeral services were held on Monday, March 24 at 1 p.m. in the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home. Officiation was made by Gary Smith and Wesley Stone.

Mr. Smith was laid to rest at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper following the funeral service.

Visitation was held on Sunday, March 23 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and on Monday, March 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the funeral service in the South Pittsburg Chapel.

The pallbearers were Gray Smith, Johnny Stone, Wesley Stone, Matt Stone, James Moore, and Jake Stone. The honorary pallbearers were Gary Smith, Doug Smith, Bill Cagle, Chuck Gibson, Jared Stone, Chris Thomas and Jace Stone.
