Cracker Barrel, the highly popular restaurant chain and country store is to keep its iconic logo, despite corporate officials initially aiming to change the design of the logo.
The restaurant officially unveiled its new logo on Tuesday, August 19, as part of its “All the More” business campaign. The campaign was established to update and modernize the Cracker Barrel style and brand, while also reinventing and adding in new items to the restaurant’s menu. The campaign additionally aimed to retain what makes the restaurant for many so special, as publicly stated by company’s CEO Julie Felss Masino.
Many critics across social media stated their opinions regarding the new logo, with longtime fans of the brand expressing mixed to negative opinions of the logo’s newest design. Some felt the design took away what made the original style so beloved, while others felt the look was “cold and sterile”. Others however expressed their support, sharing generally positive feedback for the redesign.
The design change was the first in 48 years, with the last major change being made in 1977 when the well-known image of a man sitting beside a barrel was first introduced. The restaurant’s first logo in 1969 featured no more than plain text. A decision which the new design was looking to bring back, with more modern touches to keep it unique.
The company’s shares within the stock market had plummeted in the millions due to the given change and rebranding. The change in the logo’s style over time caused further backlash by fans of the restaurant as well as from several political figures, thus causing the Cracker Barrel company to ultimately pull the plug on the new logo and retain the restaurant’s iconic image.
