Kim Jordan of Marion County’s American Legion Hall Post 62 announced the organization’s first ever Costume Ball event during South Pittsburg’s recent city meeting.
During the meeting, Kim explained how the organization is looking to host the event on Tuesday, October 28 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. to avoid conflict with the city’s annual Trunk-or-Treat event scheduled for Thursday, October 30. The event will feature various games, music, door prizes, as well as performances conducted by local magician Jerry White of The Magic Box. A costume contest will also be held during the event.
Kim stated the costume ball was established to help the Legion not only become more involved with the community but also to draw more memberships with the organization, as the Legion in the past 10 years has been facing a decline in memberships. Both Kim and his wife, Amanda, felt by orchestrating more events and having more involvement with the community, more memberships and recognition for the organization would follow.
“We’re just trying to be more visible and get our names out there,” said Kim.
Kim requested a donation from the town’s Board of Mayor & Commissioners during this month’s meeting to help alleviate some of the costs going towards the event. However, with it being scheduled the same week as the city’s Trunk-or-Treat event, the board felt best to speak further with Kim regarding a specific amount prior to next month’s meeting before an official donation is publicly approved.
