Clyde Berton Gilliam, 83 of Chattanooga, Tennessee was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, May 9. On January 10, 1942, he was born to the late Garrett Gilliam and Jeanette Collins Gilliam in South Pittsburg. Clyde was married to Earline Wilkinson Gilliam and was a member of Lookout Valley Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Assistant Treasurer for many years. He served in the United States Air Force for four years. Clyde worked also worked many years for Norfolk Southern Railroad until he retired. He loved doing anything outdoors and spending time with his family. He had a loving, available and servant heart.
Clyde is preceded in death by his father Garrett Gilliam, mother Jeanette Collins Gilliam, brother Clinton Gilliam, sister Julia Hookey and granddaughter Hailey Hardison.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife Earline Wilkinson Gilliam, son Berton (Christie) Gilliam, daughter Aleisha (C. T.) Hardison, sister Joyce Haskew, grandchildren Shelby (Kyle) Kramm, Kyla (Garrett) Burr, Zoe Gilliam (Eric Jeffords), Trent Hardison and Allie Gilliam (Cole Headrick), great grandchild Mary Helen Headrick, several nieces, nephews, as well as other family members and special friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, May 16, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. ET, (12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. CST) at Lookout Valley Baptist Church on 23 Lilac Avenue in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Funeral services were also held Friday, May 16, at 3:30 p.m. ET (2:30 p.m. CST) at Lookout Valley Baptist Church, with Pastor Troy Wallister and Laymen Darrell Smith who officiated.
Clyde was laid to rest on Friday, May 16 at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper following the funeral service.
Pallbearers were Trent Hardison, Cole Headrick, Kyle Kramm, Garrett Burr, Eric Jeffords and Gary Gilliam, with honorary Pallbearer being James Haskew.
