Charles “Charlie” V. Barnett, 77

Charles “Charlie” V. Barnett, 77 of Jasper was called home on Thursday, June 12.  On February 23, 1948, he was born to the late Thomas B Barnett and Josephine Robinson Barnett in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Over the years, Charlie worked as a coal miner for Tennessee Consolidated Coal, as well as a truck driver for Air Liquide and for the Town of Jasper.  Most recently, he worked for Service Electric. He was married to Emma “Blondie” Pickett Barnett until her death.  Charlie was a Mason with Olive Branch 297.  He loved to hunt, fish and camp.  Charlie loved sports, especially football.  He had a special place in his heart for the Coal Miners Museum, which he donated many items to throughout the years.  Charlie would help anyone in need and was a very liked person.  He was a hard worker and was known for never being in a hurry to get anywhere.  Charlie loved his family and his grandchildren more than anything.

Charlie is preceded in death by his father Thomas “Tom” B. Barnett, mother Josephine Robinson Barnett, wife Emma “Blondie” Pickett Barnett, brother Billy Ray “Smokey” Barnett and sister Betty Jo Guy.

Left to cherish his memories are his daughters Char (Jim) Cheaves and Brooke (Kenny) Swafford, brother Thomas L. Barnett, sisters Doris Gravitt, Anna M. Rogers and Carolyn Durrow, grandchildren Amber (Beau) Bailey, Summer Cheaves, Aidan, Ava, and Bella Swafford, great grandchildren Addison, Maddox and Averi Bailey, special friend Barbara Meserve, several nieces, nephews, other family members and special friends.

Visitation was held on Monday, June 16 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday, June 17 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Tate Funeral Home in Jasper.

Funeral services were also held on Tuesday, June 17 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Tate Funeral Home in Jasper, with Pastor Cary Thompson who officiated.

Charlie was laid to rest on Tuesday, June 17 at Whitwell Memorial Cemetery in Whitwell immediately after the funeral service was held.

Pallbearers were Cory Pickett, Charlie Durrow, Scott Neely, Tracy Rogers, Ponch Layne, Rudy Honea and Beau Bailey, with honorary pallbearers being Tim Gravitt and Charlie’s best friend, Richard Easterly.
