A change order with Tri-Con Inc regarding the construction of Jasper Middle School’s new location has been approved by members of the county’s Board of Education.
During the meeting, it was explained how after the evaluation was conducted regarding the engineering process of the project, it was estimated the final price of the structure dropped by $900,000. This is a decrease which goes towards the Board’s favor financially. Dr. Mark Griffith described the change order to essentially bring funds directly back into a savings account created for the District 3 region of Marion County. He also noted the final costs for the project was $31 million plus additional change, with it originally planned to be allotted for around $33 million.
Dr. Griffith added that the change order would help release funds for current and future capital projects. A meeting between Griffith, the project manager of the Board Randy Gilliam , and Tri-Con was held several weeks ago to discuss the release of both retainage and interest under capital projects. The interests, according to Griffith would be based from January of this year to July.
The change order with Tri-Con Inc. was approved by the Board during the July public meeting , with all funds discussed to be allotted to District 3 of the county for the JMS project .
