Volunteers from the Jasper Highlands community recently came together to build dozens of beds for children in need through the Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) organization.
SHP is a national nonprofit that provides beds for children across the country. To date, the organization has built and delivered more than 280,000 beds to children without a bed of their own. SHP is supported by major companies including Lowe’s, Ashley Furniture Home Store, DeWalt, and FLEX Power Tools, which supply resources to help the organization continue reaching and achieving its mission.
The event, held in Monteagle on Saturday, May 3, was a resounding success. Led by Paul Rizzo Jr., Ron Hardin, and Mark Moeller, the event was also sponsored by the Jasper Highlands community. Around 60 volunteers participated in the project, including Jeff Robertson and several members of the South Pittsburg Rotary Club. Volunteers exceeded their original goal of building 40 beds by constructing and delivering 63 beds to children across six Tennessee counties, including Marion County. Residents and corporate sponsors contributed a total of $11,695 to support the cause.
SHP’s well-known motto, “No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town,” guided the volunteers as they worked to ensure that more children have a safe, comfortable place to sleep at night. Donations and information about chapter projects can be found at https://shpbeds.org.
