This picture was taken at the juncture of 4th Street and Cedar Avenue in South Pittsburg. This street scene of South Pittsburg dates from the early 1940s. On the side of the mountain in the far distance on the left is McReynolds High School, a historically significant African American school that was established in 1921. The school served Marion County and parts of Jackson County, Alabama. The school was destroyed by fire in 1965.
