During its September meeting, the Marion County Board of Education has made a motion to appoint four of its leading members to attend this year’s Tennessee School Board Association (TSBA) Convention in November.

A motion was made for Chairpersons Nathan Billingsley, Donna Blansett, Bo Nunley, and Ryan Philips to attend this year’s event representing the county’s school system. The event, according to Philips, serves as a major gathering of all the school boards from across the state, where each board can elect either three or five members that will serve as delegates to vote on new policies and laws made by the state. Additionally, board members attending the event can also collaborate with one another to brainstorm new ideas for the Tennessee school system and for each individual school board.

“They do some classes where you get to kind of brainstorm and sit down with other school boards on ideas, such as what they’re doing with this school system and what we’re doing here,” explained Philips.

The convention is hosted every year at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, with this year’s event to be held on Friday, Nov. 14 until Sunday, Nov. 16. A Leadership Conference will be held prior to the main event. The convention will once more showcase various programs enacted by the state, as well as provide participants with the opportunity to hear from various speakers and join different sessions to take in new ideas for the future of the school system.
