The Marion County Board of Education has been awarded a ground breakers financial award from the Tennessee Tiered Support Center (Tennessee TCS). A grant that supports foundational changes and systems that are made within a given school district, as well as overall funding for school programs, the ground breakers award is to help fund upcoming new systems that members of the county board have been working for both its staff and even attending students.

Caroline Robinson, a member of the center’s RTI District for Middle Tennessee, is the one who presented the award to the board members during this month’s meeting, citing the great partnership that the board and organization have with one another, while also citing some of the board’s accomplishments that they made throughout the school year.

“We focused on building a strong RTI-A act for academics and behavior framework in our schools, what that looks like is at a Tier 1 level, that’s for all of our students. For academics, that looks like high quality instruction, but it’s tied with a very positive school environment,” noted Robinson. She also added that all Marion County elementary schools have worked to develop cohesive leadership teams via training, while also developing a separate leadership team dedicated to a given district of the county schools.

“They perform regular self-assessments to really reflect and analyze areas where the schools can grow and then also do action planning to develop polls and to monitor them,” she explained. Tennessee TCS, in and of itself, is a major technical and educational support program that provides grants to help support school districts across Tennessee, while also providing assistance through schools via RTIs. A set of rules that help organize and prioritize what a given school needs through four separate categories, Leadership, Assessment, Data Based Decision Making and Instruction/Intervention. Tennessee TCS and the Marion County School District began working together since the end of the 2022-2023 school year. The grant itself was accepted by all members of the Board of Education with many thanks.
