Betty “Sue” Stephens, 85

Betty “Sue” Stephens, 85 of South Pittsburg passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 1 surrounded by family.

She was born on April 16, 1940 to Joseph and Bessie Graham Scharer in South Pittsburg.  She was known for her incredible work ethic, welcoming everyone into her home with open arms, and caring for her family and friends. Her greatest joy was showing up and supporting her entire family in every aspect of their lives. Sue was a member of Kimball Baptist Church.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents Joseph Scharer and Bessie Mae Scharer, sisters Patty Barnes and Ann Ridley, and brothers Ted and Don Scharer.

She is survived by her husband  Jimmy Stephens, daughters Debbie (Tim) Haggard and Connie (Ray) Blevins, nieces Amy (Wayne) Jordan and Melissa (Travis) Houston, grandchildren Tyler Haggard, Nicole (Brian) Sowder, Derek (Marissa) Blevins and Aubrey Houston, great-grandchildren Cameron Medrano, Coy Haggard, Brison Sowder, Benton Blevins and Beckett Blevins, sister Reba Scharer along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 4 at 1 p.m. (CST) in the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home, with Bro. Bruce Howland and Pastor Ronnie Case who officiated.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, February 3 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Wednesday, February 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the funeral service in the South Pittsburg Chapel.

Interment was held following the funeral at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper.

Pallbearers were Roy Ridley Jr., Mitchell Ladd, Bobby Scharer, Don Scharer Jr., Wayne Jordan and Travis Houston.

The family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Chattanooga.

Arrangements were entrusted to Rogers Funeral Home, South Pittsburg Chapel, 400 Laurel Ave, South Pittsburg, Tennessee 37380 (423) 837-7176.
