Barbara Simmons Hale, 89

Barbara Simmons Hale, 89, of Jasper, died on Saturday, November 16, in Sheffield, AL. Born November 20, 1934, in Richard City, the daughter of the late Roy Franklin and Martha Mayfield Simmons, she was the wife of the late D.C. Hale, Jr. (Junior) of Jasper. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Rosealine Miner and Mary Rogers, and brothers, Cecil Simmons and Roy Simmons.

She is survived by her children, Julia Harrison of Tullahoma, TN, Charlotte Orr of Florence AL, and Danny Hale of Jasper and their spouses. By her adoring grandchildren Joshua Harrison and Tabitha Harrison, Lucas Orr and Victoria Maggard, and Alex Hale and Mallory Kilgore. And, by six loving great-grands, Anika, Ryan, Carter, Juniper, Ivy and Felix, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Barbara was a member of South Pittsburg Church of Christ. Recently, she moved to Florence, AL to live with Charlotte’s family and worshiped at Killen Church of Christ.

She was educated at Richard Hardy Memorial, South Pittsburg High School and David Lipscomb College.

Barbara and husband “Junior” owned and operated Hale’s Supermarket until their retirement. In her youth, she worked at the Dixie Freeze in S. Pittsburg, S. Pittsburg High School and at Haskins & Sells in Chattanooga.

In her spare time, Barbara liked to spend time with family, create crochet and sewing keepsakes, read books, work puzzles, and watch sports. She was an avid UT Vols and Atlanta Braves fan. In retirement, Barbara was very active in her church family. Barbara loved music and passed this on to her family.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, November 21, at Rogers Funeral Home in Jasper with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. followed by the funeral service in the Jasper Chapel beginning at 1 p.m. Barbara will be laid to rest with her beloved husband at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Jasper.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, CaringPlace of the Shoals, the Imagination Library or a charity of your choice in memory of Barbara Hale. Special thanks to those at CaringPlace of the Shoals and Brentwood Retirement Center who loved and cared for Barbara during her last years.
