Two separate vehicle fires were recently reported across separate stretches of I-24 in Marion County, one taking place in Kimball on I-24 East and the other I-24 West directly by the Tennessee/Georgia line.

The first fire took place on Saturday, Dec. 27 on I-24 West on the Tennessee/Georgia state line. Nine firefighters from Haletown Volunteer Fire Department (HVFD) responded to the scene, where smoke was spotted emitting from the engine. Firefighters immediately conducted suppression efforts to put out the smoke, quickly putting out the inferno inside and securing the vehicle from the interstate.

“After securing the vehicle, all Haletown units headed back to the hall,” quoted HVFD through a post on Facebook. “All Haletown units were 10-10 10-98 at 17:45 hours.”

Nearly 24 hours later another vehicular fire was reported on I-24, this time near Exits 152 and 152B on I-24 East on Sunday, Dec. 28. According to meteorologist Chase Bryant via his Facebook page, the fire caused a major influx of traffic closest to the site of the incident. He told oncoming travelers to avoid the area and to seek alternative routes. The fire was put out and cleared by local personnel, and travel through the stretch of interstate in Kimball resumed with no further incident.
