Kimball Park is set to receive newly paved asphalt in the near future, as the town’s city board recently approved a $16,500 quote to have the site prepared for the upcoming project.
During Kimball’s March meeting, three quotes were presented to each council member for review, all three quotes varying in price range. The highest bid, submitted by Bailey Contracting, LLC from Jasper, was worth $20,620, while the $16,500 quote was submitted by Jason Collins Construction, the quote being the lowest for the project. The third quote from Lofty Construction was worth $18,910. Because of Jason Collins Construction being the lowest in price, Vice Mayor Jerry Don Case made motion to have the company’s quote be approved, allowing the Jasper-based business to mark off and make the necessary preparations needed for the project.
The asphalt project in question centers on a patch of area surrounding Kimball Park’s soccer concession stand/office facility. The site is to receive new asphalt once all grounds near it is leveled and readied, in addition to separate quotes to pour and surface the asphalt needed to be directly sent to the council for approval.
“The ground has to be prepared first, then a crush-and-run, and rock being put on it,” Mayor Rex Pesnell said. “Then that has to settle for a while before you can actually put asphalt on it.”
The quote was agreed upon unanimously in a 4-1 vote during the meeting, Alderman Teresa Lofty abstaining her vote for the quote’s approval.
