All three Marion County teams are ranked in the Associated Press Tennessee High School Football top ten this week with South Pittsburg jumping up to number-one after thrashing a 6A opponent this past week.

The Pirates from South Pittsburg got eight first place votes this week, supplanting defending state champion McKenzie which fell to number-three. The Pirates were ranked second last week. They are tied with Dresden for first place votes as they also had eight. The Pirates got the first place nod as the voters gave them 194 points to 188 for Dresden. McKenzie got five first-place votes and 154 overall voter points.

On the heels of South Pittsburg in 1A is Whitwell which won a close one over Greenback this past week. They remained steady at number five. South Pitt and Whitwell meet in the final regular season game to the year.

Meanwhile, up in 2A, Marion County leaped two spots to number six in the state after going to Georgia and securing a close out-of-state, non-conference win.
