The Marion County Commission recently approved a change order request regarding ongoing renovations to the county’s health department facility.
County Mayor David Jackson explained the change order centers around $26,160 in costs for the renovation project, particuarlily towards the refurbishment of the facility’s interior walls. He pointed out contractors for the project were having trouble applying new paint, primer, and sealant onto the walls, as it was suspected that an oil-based glue was utilized to stick the original wallpaper onto the walls.
“Wherever that wallpaper is, it will not stick,” said Jackson. “It only just bulbs up.”
Jackson acknowledged the change order would not pose as a serious expense to the commission, as the state was already underway of providing the county with $30,000 in American Rescue Plan funds. Once received, the funds can be directly used for the ongoing project when needed, especially to help with the finishing touches for the walls inside the building.
“What they’ll do is put a quarter inch of sheet rock over on all the areas needed, hit it in, and get it painted so we can resolve the issue,” said Jackson.
The motion to approve the change order unanimously passed during the recent meeting, allowing for the change order to become effective for the current project.
