Jasper Elementary School (JES) has once more opened its doors to families for the school’s annual Book Fair event, with this year’s central theme being “Reading through the Decades”.

On Tuesday, March 10, students and residents were welcomed with open arms to the school’s large assortment of books on display and available for purchase. Books range from a variety of genres and well renowned children’s authors, including works from Dav Pikley, David Shannon, and Dr. Seuss.

Alli Brooks, JES Librarian and Media Specialist, explained the fair also serves as a major, weeklong event for students to participate in during school hours, with the book fair serving as the prime-time event for all families to visit.

“This is my one big event of the school year and it’s a weeklong event,” Brooks said.

Held every year and conducted through major book provider Scholastic, the book fair over the years garnered much attraction from families within the area, visitations and inventory alike growing by the numbers while the central theme changing to provide visual uniqueness to each fair hosted. Brooks mentioned a large contributor to the fair’s rising popularity stems from community and staff support, parent volunteers, administrat0rs, and faculty of JES banding together to make every book fair a fun filled reality for all the school students.

“I have the best village in the world,” Brooks said. “I have so many people that step up and help, from parent volunteers to admin, and to our faculty and staff. Everybody steps up to try to make it bigger and better than ever, and it’s all for these kiddos.”

Brooks also hoped that all who visit and browse the book fair’s collection can leave with a newfound love for reading, a love in which all JES staff and volunteers look ahead to once again demonstrate in a major way for next year’s school book fair.
