First responders from the Jasper Highlands Fire Department (JHFD) responded to a fire alarm alert in the wake of severe weather during the midnight hours on Monday, March 16.
According to JHFD in a post on Facebook, at 1:31 a.m. ten firefighters responded to a fire alarm in a home located off Jasper Highlands Boulevard within the Jasper Highlands subdivision. As inclement weather raged on, all ten firemen alongside Engines One, Two, and Three sprinted to action expecting a house fire during the storm. However, upon reaching the home, no fire was seen.
“Fearing a lighting strike may have started a fire within a wall, our team used thermal imaging cameras to look for a hidden fire, and ultimately no fire was found,” JHFD posted.
After thorough investigations, it was discovered rainwater from outside penetrated the home due to high winds, causing the water to leak into a smoke detector, which triggered the alarm system to go off. Because of this, all firemen on-site left the scene at 2:20 a.m., and everyone involved ultimately returning home during the night’s ongoing and inclement weather.
