The Marion County Commission has agreed to purchase a new, enclosed trailer for the county’s UT-TSU Extension Office.

Commissioner Jimmy Cantrell made the proposition during the commission’s February meeting, explaining how the idea came to fruition during the county’s Agriculture Committee’s last meeting on Feb. 1. He noted how during the meeting, it was brought to both his and Commissioner Dennis Rollins’ attention that members of the county’s UT-TSU Extension Office utilize personal vehicles to transport equipment needed for various events the organization hosted. Because of this, both commissioners decided to look into potentially acquiring an enclosed trailer for the organization to use, therefore helping to negate the need for members to utilize personal vehicles to transport needed equipment.

“We did locate one in Chattanooga,” Cantrell said. “The price was $7,999 for the trailer, but we negotiated it down to $4,189. So they knocked off $3,800 basically.”

Following this, all members of the commission expressed support for the proposed purchase of the trailer, unanimously voting to have it conducted on behalf of the Extension Office.
