Mary “Magdalene” Higdon, 84 of South Pittsburg soared to see her Lord on Wednesday, March 4 surrounded by her loving family at home.

She worked for the Dixie Freeze for 24 years. She loved to bake and spend time with her children. One of her best traits was to witness to people about her Lord. She always had the biggest smile, one that would light up a room. She always loved unconditionally and everyone knew that her love was sincere. She was a faithful member of Straightway Baptist Church in Bryant, Alabama for over 61 years. She loved her family more than life and was a dedicated mother who sacrificed so much for her children and others. She’ll always be remembered for her kindness and her joyful spirit. She’s surely teaching the angels how to sing. She will forever be missed but never forgotten. Please keep her family in prayer as they navigate this huge loss. Everyone needs a “Magdalene” in their lives.

Magdalene was preceded in death by her husband John Lee Higdon, her parents Marion Grady and Rosa Adeline Sims Huckabee, brothers Houston Huckabee, Harold Huckabee, Riley Huckabee, Jerry Huckabee, Merle Dean Huckabee, Thomas Richard Huckabee and Joseph Wayne Huckabee, sisters Willie Blevins and Mildred Jean Huckabee, and her cat Baby.

She leaves behind her son Darrell Higdon, two daughters Marilyn (Raymond) Howard and Patty (David) Johnson, grandchildren Brooke (Kevin) Fontenette, Taylor (Madeline) Johnson and Chandler (Peyton) Johnson, great grandchildren Avery Fontenette, Mary-Alden Fontenette, Oliver Johnson and Eleanor Johnson, special grandsons Gordon Farmer and Noah Bone, sister Nelda (Sam) Whited, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 8 at 2 p.m. in the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home, with Pastor Gary Bone, Brent Smith, and Sam Whited who officiated the funeral service.

Mrs. Higdon was laid to rest with her beloved husband John Lee Higdon at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Jasper, immediately following the funeral services held.

Visitation was hosted on Friday, March 6 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, March 7 from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., and on Sunday, March 8 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral services in the chapel of Rogers Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Jarvis Wooten, Montrail Shackelford, Taylor Johnson, Chandler Johnson, Noah Bone and Richard Marr.

We want to thank Hospice of Chattanooga and especially Stephanie for their loving care.
