On Sunday, March 15, the Distinguished Young Women held a scholarship program for the women of the organization, giving them the chance to earn a scholarship. Each student was given a prize of $250 for their participation.
Participant #1, Callie Grider
Callie Grider is a junior at South Pittsburg High School. She is the daughter of her parents Andy and Amy Grider. For her dream college, Callie plans on going to the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga. Her future career is to become a labor and delivery nurse. For her talent, she performed an enthusiastic cheer and tumbling routine. She received a fitness award of $100.
Participant #2, Faith Eggert
Faith Eggert is a junior at Marion County High School. She is the daughter of William and Vickie Eggert. For her dream college, Faith plans on attending the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. While doing so, she hopes to pursue a degree in Restoration Architecture. For her talent, she performed a third-degree black belt in taekwondo with the Yoo Sin form. The performance was done to the song “Test Drive” by John Powell. She received a talent award, a scholastic award, and an interview award, each $100. Faith Eggert won the 2027 Distinguished Young Woman, with the prize of a $1,000 scholarship.
Participant #3, Maliyah Davis
Maliyah Davis is a junior at South Pittsburg High School. She is the daughter of Chassidy Martin. For her dream college, she hopes to attend Chattanooga State Community College. While doing so, she hopes to pursue a degree to also become a labor and delivery nurse. For her talent, Maliyah sang the song “Goodness In God” by Cece Winans. She also received a fitness award of $100.
Participant #4, Kristy Jiang
Kristy Jiang is a junior at Marion County High School. She is the daughter of Jingsong Jiang and Hanlei Dong. For her dream college, she hopes to attend the University of Tennessee in Knoxville to pursue a degree in psychology. For her talent, Kristy performed a color guard routine to “APT” by Bruno Mars and Rosé.
Participant #5, Samantha Tierney
Samantha Tierney is a junior at South Pittsburg High School. She is the daughter of Dan and Kathie Tierney. For her dream college, she hopes to attend Lee University in Cleveland to major in Criminal Justice. For her talent, she read an original poem titled “Still Here.”
Participant #6, Ashlynn Rigby
Ashlynn Rigby is a junior at South Pittsburg High School. She is the daughter of Michael Rigby and Angela Schroth. For her dream college, she plans on attending Duke University in North Carolina to pursue a degree in Environmental Economics. For her talent, she sang “Never Enough” by Loren Allred. Her performance was ranked as the fans’ favorite. She received a talent award, a scholastic award, and an interview award, each $100. Ashlynn was also the 2027 Distinguished Young Women runner-up with a prize of $500.
